Een massage is een behandeling van het lichaam door systematisch over de huid te wrijven, te strijken of de huid te kneden. Massages kunnen handmatig of met mechanische apparaten worden verstrekt. Mannen en vrouwen die zijn opgeleid om massages te geven, heten masseurs en masseuses.

Een massage dient vooral om spierstijfheid of krampen te verlichten of weg te nemen, de bloedsomloop te verbeteren, de spieren helpen te ontspannen. Sportmassage heeft het doel het lichaam beter belastbaar te maken voor lichamelijke inspanningen. Een zachte massage heeft een verzachtende werking op de sensorische zenuwen. Een krachtigere massage versnelt de bloedsomloop en helpt afvalproducten van het lichaam af te drijven. Nochtans is er geen bewijsmateriaal dat een massage vet of vetweefsel kan verminderen of veranderen.
