Une Webcam est une caméra qui se connecte à l'ordinateur, via :

• - le port USB ,
• - plus rarement par le port FireWire ,
• - ou le parallèle ou série (anciens modèles, abandonné du fait du trop bas débit) ,
• - sur un réseau Ethernet (haut de gamme, permet des fils beaucoup plus longs) ou Wifi (sans fil) ,
• - ou grâce à une carte d'acquisition vidéo interne ou externe au PC.

La caméra est de standard PAL vidéo-composite de type filaire habituel ou caméra sans fil utilisant la bande des 2,4 GHz (bande L).

La finalité d'une webcam n'est pas de produire une vidéo de haute qualité, mais de produire une image de base, tant en définition (souvent moins que le standard VGA, c'est-à-dire moins de 640×480 points), qu'en nombre d'images par seconde, permettant de transmettre l'image par un réseau à bas débit.

@bekahjayne i was trying on audacity but then i tried everything that usually records sound like webcam and stuff and nothing worked :S
